Best Essential Oil for Healthy Lips & DIY Lip Recipes
Chapped, dry, & cracked lips are not fun, not cute, and can even be painful. It's super inexpensive and easy to make moisturizing lip balms and scrubs to heal your lips. Adding essential oils to your DIY lip recipes not only makes them smell amazing but also boosts the benefits for your lips.

Benefits of Using Essential Oils on Your Lips

Natural Moisturization

  • Lips don’t have oil glands, which makes them more prone to drying out.
  • Essential oils, when combined with a carrier oil, can provide deep hydration that helps keep your lips soft and supple.

Healing Properties

  • Many essential oils have natural healing properties that can help soothe and repair damaged lips.

Natural Plumping Effect

  • Some essential oils, like peppermint or cinnamon, create a tingling sensation that increases blood circulation to the lips, giving them a naturally fuller, plumper appearance without the need for chemical-based lip plumpers.

Aromatherapy Benefits

  • The scent of essential oils can have a mood-enhancing effect.

Natural and Non-Toxic

  • Many commercial lip products contain synthetic chemicals, fragrances, and preservatives that can be harsh on your skin.
  • Essential oils offer a natural alternative that is free from harmful additives, making them a safer choice for long-term use.

Customizable Lip Care

  • With essential oils, you can easily customize your lip care routine to address specific needs or preferences, such as adding extra moisture, enhancing healing, or simply enjoying your favorite scents.
  • Create your own blend of essential oils tailored to your lip care needs.

Tips for Using Essential Oils on Lips:

Always Dilute

  • Essential oils are highly concentrated, so always dilute them with a carrier oil (like coconut, jojoba, or almond oil) before applying them to your lips.
  • Hot and sensitizing oils need extra dilution. This includes peppermint, cinnamon, and citrus oils.

Patch Test

  • Test a small amount of the oil on your wrist or the inside of your elbow before applying it to your lips to ensure you don’t have an allergic reaction or sensitivity.

Citrus Oils are Photosensitive

  • Citrus oils (and some others) contain natural molecules that react with sunlight and can cause sensitivity to the skin.
  • Avoid direct UV exposure to or cover areas of skin where citrus oils were applied for 12+ hours.
