I love ear candling! But…..does ear candling work. I used my parents as guinea pigs to see.
How does ear candling work?
See another article I wrote here. Find ear candles here. The wax cone-shaped candle allegedly creates a vacuum in your ear when lit. The vacuum sucks out all the gunk in your ear (allegedly), equalizes pressure, and alleviates sinus aches and pains (among other things, see the full list here).
I was at my parents’ house last week for Thanksgiving and they let me run an experiment on them. My mom loves ear candling. She’s actually the one that introduced me to it. She has it done professionally at her spa. She travels a lot for work so her ears and sinuses are always undergoing a lot of pressure from the plane flights. She swears this balances everything out for her. And I believe it! I have ear candled about half a dozen times. My ears, sinuses, nose, the whole area feel clean and pressure is released from my temples every time.
But does it remove wax?
We burned one candle as a test. We didn’t use it on anyone, just let it burn. We wanted to see if the wax that was in the candle after it burned was from our ears or from the candle.
We opened the tester and a couple of the ones from our ears. We weren’t too scientific (meaning we didn’t weigh the wax or anything, just eyeballed it). IT’S THE EXACT SAME!!! I was SHOCKED! My ears always feel cleaner after candling. But the proof is right here, the candle produces a lot, if not all, of the wax.
My mom swore her ears were cleaner and her sinuses were cleared. I flew a couple days before and my ears were still popping from it, that stopped after candling. It’s been 4 days and my ears still feel clean and great! My dad said it was all hog wash and didn’t help him at all. The tester candle and the candles we used appeared to produce the same amount of wax.
I swear by ear candles and think they are awesome! I see results. But like many homeopathic / natural / alternative healing methods, they are not scientifically proven to work. So try it yourself. Did it work for you? Let me know! I’m curious!
