Freezable Protein Waffles: 5 Ways
I always feel like I’m winning when I serve up a protein-packed breakfast for my family. And sometimes, I just need a break from eggs. And definitely a break from cooking every morning.

That's why I love making a massive batch of protein waffles and freezing them for a quick, easy, no mess nutrient-dense breakfast. And bonus - I quickly mix the batter in the blender and can make several different flavors so everyone in my family is happy!

My Favorite Waffle Maker

Over the past decade, I've gone through a handful of waffle makers. The waffles get stuck, they are a hassle to clean, burnt pieces never come off, they cook unevenly, they can't handle the multiple batches I make at a time (I make lots at a time & freeze them), and they just aren't built to last.

But not this one! This GreenPan Grill, Griddle, and Waffle Maker is seriously the best!

  • Made with a healthy ceramic nonstick coating that’s free from PFAS, PFOA, lead, and cadmium
  • No stick - the waffles just pop right out when they are done!
  • Cleans easily without having to scrub heavily in the little waffle crevices (plus the plates are dishwasher safe!)
  • Cooks evenly
  • Scratch resistant so it still looks brand new after making hundreds of waffles
  • Space saver because it replaced my griddle, indoor grill, and inferior waffle maker! It's all-in-one perfection!

Freezable Protein Waffle Recipe

  • Ingredients:

    • Base Recipe:
    • Optional: Stir in 1/2 cup of any of the following add-ins
      • Blueberries (fresh or frozen; coat frozen with about 1 tablespoon of flour)
      • Mashed banana
      • Chocolate chips (my daughter's favorite waffle flavor!)
      • Apples - peeled and diced in small pieces (my son's favorite waffle flavor!)
      • Nut butter of choice
    • Makes 6-8 waffles (depending on the size of the waffles and amount of add-ins)

  • Directions:

    • Put all ingredients in the base recipe into a blender or food processor
    • Mix until blended and smooth
    • Stir in optional add-ins. Don't blend blueberries, chocolate chips, or apples
    • Pour into your pre-heated waffle maker (use code thecrunchymoose)
    • Cook for 4-5 minutes until done
    • Top with syrup, fruit, and/or chocolate chips
    • Enjoy!

  • To Freeze:

    • Lay the waffles on a baking sheet with parchment paper in between each layer
    • Place in the freezer for a few hours up to overnight until frozen
      • This keeps the waffles from sticking together when you place them in freezer bags
    • Once they are frozen, you can put the frozen waffles into freezer bags and label each bag with the flavor in each bag
    • Microwave your frozen waffle for about 45 seconds to thaw for a softer waffle or toast in a toaster for a crispier waffle
    • Top with syrup, fruit, and/or chocolate chips
    • Enjoy!

  • Optional Waffle Flavors:

Make the base recipe and stir in the following:

Apple Cinnamon Waffles:

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Waffles:

Blueberry Waffles

  • Use Vanilla Spice Protein Powder in the base recipe
  • Stir in 1/2 cup blueberries, fresh or frozen
    • If using frozen blueberries, coat with about 1 tablespoon of flour to prevent color bleeding and to keep the berries from sinking in the batter

Chocolate Nut Butter Waffles

Banana Waffles:

How Much Protein is in Each Waffle?

Each waffle has about 10-15 grams of protein!

The variance depends on your ingredients and how big your waffles are.

  • 1 cup yogurt or cottage cheese = 20-25 grams
  • 1 cup flour or oats = 10-13 grams
  • 4 eggs = 24 grams
  • 2 scoops of protein powder = 20-40 grams
  • 4 tablespoons of milk = 2-3 grams
That's 76-105 grams of protein per batch! And each batch makes 6-8 waffles. That's about 10-15 grams of protein per waffle! Not bad for an easy, pre-made breakfast! Plus it's kid approved!
