Benefits of Argan Oil
This stuff isn’t called “the gold of Morocco” for nothing. Here are some of the reasons I use argan oil everyday.:
- It’s full of vitamin E & antioxidants, which are awesome for treating & preventing acne, anti-aging, anti-wrinkle, anti-inflammatory, and reduces under eye circles.
- Argan oil is very moisturizing. It’s prevents dry, brittle nails and dry scalp. It moisturizes your skin, your hair, and your nails.
- It’s full of essential fatty acids. This will keep your skin elastic, preventing aging and wrinkles.
- Argan oil promotes hair growth and mends split ends.
- Argan oil is a dry, lightweight oil. So it’s not as “greasy” as other oils like coconut oil.
What Kind of Argan Oil to Buy
There are lots of fakes out there. This is what you need to look for:
- Organic
- Cold-pressed
- The ingredient should be argania spinosa or argan oil
I use this one. Argan oil is more expensive than some other oils. But a little goes a very long way. That 4 oz. bottle will easily last me 6 months. And I use everyday on my face and 2-3 times a week on my hair.
How I Use Argan Oil
Hair
I use the “no-poo” method for washing my hair. I wash with baking soda and condition with apple cider vinegar. You can read more about my no-poo experience here. But don’t worry! You can use argan oil to moisturize your hair, promote hair growth, and heal split ends even if you don’t no-poo. Argan oil is great for all hair types including color treated hair. Not only does it add shine, the argan oil works as an anti-frizz serum.
I add essential oils to my argan oil for extra shine. This is optional. Essential oils good for your hair are:
- Lavender
- Cedarwood (dry scalp and dandruff)
- Peppermint (oily scalp and hair loss)
- Rosemary (dandruff and hair loss)
- Clary Sage
- Sage
- Basil
- Juniper
- Ylang ylang
- Sandalwood (hair loss)
- Lemon
- Cypress
- Rosewood
- Melrose
- Purification
- Melaleuca (dandruff)
My personal favorites are rosemary and ylang ylang.
Argan Oil Hair Serum
Ingredients
- 2 oz Argan Oil
- 15 drops Ylang Ylang Essential Oil
- 15 drops Rosemary Essential Oil
- 1 Glass Bottle With Dropper
Instructions
- Mix the oils in the glass bottle.
- Use 1-2 drops of the oil mix at a time.
- Rub the oils in your hands then run your hands through your hair.
- Concentrate mostly on the ends of your hair (not the roots unless you are treating dandruff or a dry or oily scalp).
- Use as often as needed*.
Notes
- *I use this mix 1-2 times between washing my hair. Since I no-poo, I only wash my hair 1-2 times per week. So I will use this serum just a couple times a week. Applying this too often will result in oily hair.
My No Poo Ebook
I have done a lot of research and trial & error to find what works and what doesn’t work. I have compiled all of that information together in an easy-to-follow guide that will answer all of your no poo questions. This book will empower you to find a natural hair care routine that works for you, at whatever level you want to take it. Are you ready to dive right in and ditch all your commercial hair products? This book will walk you through that process. Or do you just want to learn how to naturally nourish your hair with an occasional deep conditioner or serum? That’s here, too. Find the book here.
Face
I use argan oil for my moisturizer on my face and apply it night & day. Just one or two drops is all you need. Argan oil is a lightweight oil and my skin soaks it up beautifully without leaving a greasy residue. After I apply it during the day, I let it sit as long as I can before I put on makeup (5 minutes, 3 hours, just depends on my schedule for the day). I will wipe my face with a dry washcloth before applying makeup just to remove any oil still sitting on top of the skin.
All of the following essential oils are great for your face. They reduce wrinkles, moisturize, and brighten your skin.
- Frankincense
- Myrrh
- Vetiver
- Helichrysum
- Cypress
- Rose
- Lavender
- Patchouli
- Geranium
- Sandalwood
- Neroli
- Palmarosa
- Spikenard
- Gentle Baby
- White Angelica
My favorites are frankincense (learn more uses of frankincense here) and lavender (learn more uses of lavender here).
Essential oils with spf:
- Carrot Seed – SPF 30-40
- Lavender – SPF 6
- Helichrysum – SPF 7
- Myrrh – SPF 7
- Sandalwood – SPF 30

Instructions
- Mix the oils in the glass bottle.

Notes
- *During the day, let the oils set into your skin for as long as you can (5 min, several hours, how ever long you have is perfect). Wipe your face with a dry cloth prior to applying makeup to remove any oils sitting on top of your skin.

Awesome post. Have Argan oil and now have other ideas for its use. Thanks 🙂
I love using argan oil as a moisturizer. And by the way, your hair looks beautiful. 🙂
Thanks Pam!
I am doing no poo and want to add some argan oil to my hair. All I have is the argan oil, can I just mix that with water and spray that in my hair?
absolutely!
Argan oil is simply amazing, it has soooooo many great benefits. I use it on my hair regularly, and it became much more beautiful since then.
I’ll try Argan Oil one of these days, thanks for the information!
People have all sorts of excuses for not using Argan oil, but come on and give me a break. This stuff just isn’t that expensive. It works great for cooking, skin, and hair. I love to make my own homemade argan oil shampoos. Use them every night just to get my hair right.
I’ve been using coconut oil the past few weeks for acne and scars which has greatly improved my skin. I just read that argan oil doesn’t clog pores like coconut oil so I’m thinking of switching but like the fact that coconut oil is antibacterial antifungal etc. Should I switch or what happens if I mix them and use the combination?
The oils react differently on different skin types. I would experiment and see what happens 😉 And mixing oils is definitely ok.
Thank you so much for sharing information.
Thank you for helping spread the word about this amazing God-sent gift.
Keep up the good work 😉
Cheers
I am also using Argan oil for my hair and skin. Great Article written by you.
