Hello. My name is Ashlee and I'm a nut milk-aholic. I learned how to make nut milk in under 5 minutes and I'm hooked!
Nut, seed, and plant-based milks are a fabulous alternative for those of us who love creamy coffee, smoothies, or cereal but don’t vibe with dairy. Unfortunately, store-bought nut milks often come with a side of gums, fillers, and preservatives. Making your own gives you total control—just nuts, water, and any extras you choose, like vanilla or a hint of maple syrup.
Homemade nut milk is not only healthier and tastier, it's a big win for your wallet! It's a fraction of the cost to make it home.
Benefits of Homemade Nut, Seed, & Plant-Based Milk
Higher Quality at a Lower Price:
- Store-bought nut milks are often diluted, with as little as 2% nuts in some brands. Homemade milk is creamier and richer.
Skip the Extras:
- No additives like gums, fillers, or preservatives. With homemade nut milk, you control the ingredients.
Reusable Ingredients:
- The leftover pulp from homemade nut milk can be repurposed into cookies, granola, or smoothies.
Eco-Friendly Bonus:
- Ditching store-bought cartons also helps the environment by cutting down on packaging waste.

- Yes! You can mix your milk bases. Just make sure the total volume is about 1 cup.
- Add a few tablespoons of oats or hemp seeds for a creamier texture.
- For rice milk, use cooked rice. Half of a cup of uncooked rice will make about 1 cup of cooked rice.
- Soaking nuts and seeds is not necessary. However soaking for 4 hours up to overnight will result in a creamier texture.
- Be sure to rinse your nuts and seeds.
- Optional: add a vanilla bean to the blender cup
- Yes! You can mix your milk bases. Just make sure the total volume is about 1 cup.
- TIPS:
- Optional: add your choice of sweetener to the milk base in the blender cup. I like to add a couple of dates or about 1-2 tablespoons of maple syrup or honey
- Put 1 cup of your milk base in the blender cup. Choose from the list above. My favorites are rice, oats, or any of the nuts.
- TIP: To attach the blender cup to the blender, you may have to tip the cup to the side so the blender blades can get to the bottom so you can secure the cup. Be sure to twist and secure the blender cup into place. If the cup comes undone, the filter will not be able to do it's job and you'll have a pulpy milk.
- In the Milk Depot pitcher:
- Fill the pitcher to the fill line with filtered water (I use a Berkey or a Clearly Filtered pitcher)
- Add a pinch of salt
- Optional: add flavoring like 1-2 teaspoons of vanilla or almond extract to the water in the pitcher
- Put the lid on the pitcher
- Choose the NUTMILK mode and press start.
- Wait about 60 seconds for The Milk Depot to do it's job.
- Enjoy your fresh milk!
It really is that easy with The Milk Depot!! 1 cup of milk base, water, a pinch of salt, your choice of flavoring and sweeteners, 1 button press, and 60 seconds!
