Homemade GOOT (Garlic Oil Ointment Treatment) For Infections and Colds – Strong Enough for You & Safe Enough For Babies!

DISCLOSURE: Please note these statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This is for informational purposes only and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease. I am not a doctor. I am simply sharing my experiences.

Homemade GOOT (garlic oil treatment) - Easy & effective immune booster - thecrunchymoose.com

I use this anytime anyone in my house even thinks about sniffling, coughing, or sneezing. It’s great for preventative care (like when a virus is going around your child’s school) & kills the bacteria once it’s in your house. Next time you feel like you’re coming down with something (cold, flu, allergies, sinus infection, anything really), give this a try.

Why GOOT (Garlic Oil Ointment Treatment) Works

  • Coconut oil contains lauric acid that kills bacteria and viruses.
  • Garlic has natural antibacterial, antiviral, & antifungal properties and is a decongestant. Rubbing this ointment on your skin transfers raw garlic directly to your bloodstream.

How to Make GOOT (Garlic Oil Ointment Treatment)

Warning: This ointment does smell like garlic. It is stinky!! But it works. I would advise not using it before going out in public.

How much does this ointment smell of garlic or is the smell well disguised by the other oils?

  2. The Crunchy Moose says

    April 29, 2014 at 6:05 pm

Hi Renier – Unfortunately, I have to report that it smells like garlic. It’s pretty strong.

  3. Renier Smith says

    April 29, 2014 at 6:17 pm

Smelly it may be…I believe it will work…and it will help to free us from the Vampirism of modern healthcare!

I would love to make this, but i don’t have a food processor.. do you think a blender would do the trick okay?

  5. The Crunchy Moose says

    April 30, 2014 at 10:41 am

Yep, it should work! If it’s too thick for your blender, add a little olive oil or heat your coconut oil on the stove to melt it (my coconut oil is liquid right now since it’s hot here in Texas).

  6. Zan says

    May 1, 2014 at 3:10 am

Bought the coconut oil plus garlic today to make this for my 3 year old kid whose nose is constantly runny. Gonna try it right now-but I only have eucalyptus oil on hand.

  7. The Crunchy Moose says

    May 1, 2014 at 4:49 pm

Oh no! Hope it helps. Here’s a good guide to using essential oils with kids http://dontmesswithmama.com/essential-oils-for-kids/

  8. Zan says

    May 1, 2014 at 10:09 pm

Thanks for the link above – I wish I knew about all these essential oils stuff when my kids had ear aches and all kinds of stomach and regular flu!

The Eucalyptus oil seem to work. In fact, I rubbed it on both kids feet and on mine, too (just to be on the safe side)LOL. I subscribed to your email – really like your site! Thanks!

  9. The Crunchy Moose says

    May 2, 2014 at 11:28 am

So glad it helped!!! Thanks for the kindness!

  10. Nicole says

    May 9, 2014 at 4:36 am

Do you think it would work that same with roasted garlic? it might limit the smell a bit…

  11. The Crunchy Moose says

    May 13, 2014 at 10:35 am

    It’s worth a shot!

  12. Jenn Kujawa says

    June 2, 2014 at 6:03 pm

I would love to make something like this, however we cannot tolerate coconut oil. Do you know of any other alternatives? I currently have olive, avocado, sunflower, sesame oils and shea butter.

  13. The Crunchy Moose says

    June 4, 2014 at 10:49 am

The shea butter will be perfect! It has lots of vitamin A and is an anti-inflammatory. You can use just shea butter, or mix in some of one of the liquid oils (any of the ones you mentioned are great) for a thinner consistency.

  14. Hedie says

    June 20, 2014 at 7:01 pm

Is there a reason why it is rubbed on the bottom of feet?

  15. The Crunchy Moose says

    June 23, 2014 at 11:09 am

Hi Hedie! Yes, there is. Your feet are the safest place to put ointments (especially if they have essential oils) because feet are less sensitive. Your feet have large pores, so the garlic oil & essential oils are absorbed into your blood stream quickly. Your feet are full of reflexology and vita flex points.

  16. Hedie says

    June 23, 2014 at 3:22 pm

Oh good to know, thanks so much!

  17. Phyllis says

    September 17, 2014 at 5:34 pm

Eucalyptus oil does help a lot. I rub it on my feet when I have difficulty breathing – weather allergies and/or asthma. It’s good stuff.

  18. Kelly Redmann says

    September 30, 2014 at 3:07 am

How young can a child be before this can be used? Is it safe to use on infants (month old)?

  19. The Crunchy Moose says

    October 1, 2014 at 1:40 am

Yes it is safe for an infant! I used it on my son when he was an infant. But careful with adding essential oils if you decide to. Here is a list of essential oils safe for infants http://dontmesswithmama.com/essential-oils-for-baby/. I did not put oils topically on my baby until he was a year old (I diffused essential oils when he was a baby).

  20. carolyn says

    October 12, 2014 at 8:31 pm

I have a question regarding the essential oils… do you put all those essential oils in at once in one batch? Or do you personally make different batches with different essential oils? I have a lot of those EO’s but I am not sure if I should add some any way or just keep them out.

  21. The Crunchy Moose says

    October 14, 2014 at 11:25 am

Just the oils you need for your symptoms. Not all of them together. You can mix 2-3 oils together.

  22. Mel says

    January 23, 2015 at 7:22 pm

Hi! I was planning on making this, just had a question. I always hear that garlic can burn the skin, did you ever get this side effect?

  23. Jennifer says

    January 27, 2015 at 1:38 pm

So I can use this on an 11 week old baby? Thanks

  24. The Crunchy Moose says

    January 28, 2015 at 1:15 pm

Hi Jennifer! I used it on my son when he was that young.

  25. The Crunchy Moose says

    January 28, 2015 at 1:16 pm

Hi Mel! No, I’ve never had any burning or it feeling “hot”. And it doesn’t seem to bother my son either.

  26. debra says

    May 1, 2015 at 9:55 pm

I have had garlic and olive oil sitting in a jar for about 7 weeks ,do you think bees wax could be added and make about the same?

  27. The Crunchy Moose says

    May 1, 2015 at 10:15 pm

Actually, yes I do! You might have to play with it to get the right consistency. But it should work.

  28. Cheyenne Belton says

    July 22, 2015 at 1:59 am

Unfortunately , My six year old daughter is using it right now and my whole bedroom smells like garlic.
The plus side is that I used it for a skin infection and it is going away right before my eyes

  29. The Crunchy Moose says

    August 11, 2015 at 1:19 pm

It does stink. Sorry about your bedroom! But so glad it is working.

  30. Michelle says

    November 6, 2015 at 10:38 am

No. The reason raw garlic works is because it has virus eradicating abilities- cook it and it changes- and it will not be therapeutic. So no. Roasted garlic is not beneficial.
    Sorry!

  31. Stella says

    December 25, 2015 at 8:37 pm

I’ve been using garlic oil on my 4 year old son’s feet for a couple of weeks now since he got sick with a cold and cough and the cough is still lingering a bit. In the last several days he is refusing to eat as well as he used to. He is sensitive to smells and I’m wondering if the garlic oil has anything to do with it. Have you ever experienced anything like this? Thanks!

  32. The Crunchy Moose says

    January 5, 2016 at 1:52 pm

I haven’t heard that. It’s always a possibility. Or it could be a side effect of his cold.

  33. Tareq says

    January 10, 2016 at 4:15 pm

Hi, I had an ankle “joint feet” fracture couple months ago… Is it useful to use the garlic oil… Thank you

  34. The Crunchy Moose says

    January 11, 2016 at 10:10 pm

Unfortunately, no. This is an immune booster and doesn’t support bone health.

  35. Brenda says

    January 21, 2016 at 8:29 pm

The size of garlic cloves vary from 1/4-1/2 teaspoon to 1-2 teaspoons. Can you be more specific about the amount? Also, the garlic makes for a much milder/sweeter aroma. Would it still be effective?
Sorry if these questions have been asked and answered, but I read many comments, not all and was left wondering.

  36. melissa says

    January 26, 2016 at 8:16 am

Is this safe to put directly on a baby’s skin? I read somewhere that it is not safe to do that (basically why people use garlic poultices) Does the coconut oil help with that?

  37. The Crunchy Moose says

    February 5, 2016 at 1:41 pm

As always, consult your doctor. I have used it on my babies.

  38. che says

    February 24, 2016 at 10:30 pm

can I use it with wounds?

  39. The Crunchy Moose says

    April 11, 2016 at 2:33 pm

I haven’t tried it, but I would think so. It might sting a little

  40. fat amy says

    May 19, 2016 at 12:36 am

does it really have to wait until 6 months before we can use it?

  41. The Crunchy Moose says

    May 23, 2016 at 1:40 pm

“Store in the fridge for up to 6 months.” Not wait 6 months 😉

  42. Ambet says

    August 12, 2016 at 2:08 pm

Can it be stored in a small plastic Tupperware container? I don’t have glass

  43. The Crunchy Moose says

    August 25, 2016 at 2:21 pm

Glass is best, especially if you use essential oils. The plastic might smell like garlic afterwards and it’s possible it won’t wash clean. But it should work.

  44. L Henry says

    October 18, 2016 at 4:59 pm

I have noticed in the stores you can buy jars of minced Garlic and i suppose it is in its garlic oil and maybe olive oil to preserve on shelf. Do you think this would work on making the salve or ointment? Instead of new peeled Garlic.

  45. JQ says

Not sure started reading some good information on web I think it is coconut oil and garlic oil?

  46. JQ says

Oh no only coconut oil on wounds…lol it reduces scares and heals faster.

  47. Tomeca Blue says

Wow. Thanks for the info. So can i only use these types of coconut oil or can i grab one from the grocery store?

  48. Acosta says

    November 27, 2016 at 5:42 am

I made this and used it on my 5 month old. I put it on her chest and feet. This stuff smells horrible lol.
How often should it be applied?
